Red, White and Bluetiful

Choosing the colors for this week was a no brainer. I only had to look at the date and know they had to be: red, white and blue.

I had posted a poem inspired by WHITE before, but decided to write a new poem about that color. A search for RED brought me to BRICK RED and for BLUE to BLUETIFUL. What fun these names are!
BRICK RED
At the top of my street, there is a little-known trail into the woods that has the evidence of all sorts of buildings that had once been there- stone foundations and rock fences. On a walk with my husband one day, I found a chimney like this one, deep in the woods with an old cast iron pot still hanging from it. It was a whole book of stories waiting to be told. How I wish I could snap my fingers and go back to see who lived there and get a peek into their life. It makes me wonder if one day, someone will walk by my chimney and wonder who I was.

WHITE
Being a collage artist and painter, I appreciate the beautiful white of a new canvas and all the possibilities it offers. I have many paintings and collages in my home and had to admit to my husband that it's starting to look like an art gallery!

BLUETIFUL
The color Bluetiful this week is so sweet. It is a lovely word that feels lovely to say. All I could think of was blue cheese and how much I love it, and how much my husband doesn't. Instead, preferring the orange, rubbery slices of cheddar. Thinking of blue cheese made me remember being in South Carolina and my hike to a tunnel that had been used to age blue cheese. Its salty dampness was refreshing on a hot southern day. I almost swear I could smell the blue cheese.

Happy Poetry Friday, everyone.
Thanks for stopping by on this Holiday weekend. I hope you will enjoy these three poems and will stop by our host's blog - talented poet and artist, Michelle Kogan- at More Art 4 All. This week she offers a thoughtful poem on America that calls us to action and reminds us of our origins.
Happy Fourth of July, all.
